I’ve just read an article where German business managers keep cellphones in biscuit tins – and I’m thinking this has a two-fold effect:

  1. if they vibrate the biscuit tins will dance on the table icon smile German business managers keep cellphones in biscuit tins
  2. to make the cellphones fit IN the biscuit tin, one would presumably have to eat all the biscuits (this is a good side benefit)
  3. ok – I said two-fold, but the more I read the more I think of … cellphone users wouldn’t be able to be distracted in meetings and be tempted to text etc.

So what did the actual article say? I read this on the Sydney Morning Herald:

Well that certainly adds a more serious meaning to my original frivolous comments – and on reading more of the article I must admit I’m a bit surprised that they are doing this to “preventing people from hacking into mobile phones, not only for calls but also to get hold of emails”. Goodness, it seems the more our lives are online or “in the cloud”, the more our data (private and business) is subjected to the potential risk of being hacked.

It is fascinating though that this high-tech espionage story’s surprise solution is an olde worlde cookie tin icon smile German business managers keep cellphones in biscuit tins
